2026 Releases
The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 — April 3, 2026
After the first film became the highest-grossing animated movie of 2023 (over $1.3 billion worldwide), Mario and the gang are back. This sequel reportedly takes inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy, sending Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach into space. Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Charlie Day, and Keegan-Michael Key all return.
If the first movie proved anything, it's that Nintendo + Illumination is a formula that prints money.
Release date: April 3, 2026
Toy Story 5 — June 19, 2026
Pixar's most beloved franchise returns. After Toy Story 4 seemingly wrapped up the saga, the fifth installment reportedly takes the toys into a world where children prefer tablets and phones over physical toys. It's a premise that hits close to home for every parent — and knowing Pixar, they'll find a way to make you cry about it.
Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, and the rest of the voice cast are expected to return. This is Pixar's big theatrical bet for 2026.
Release date: June 19, 2026
Minions & Monsters — July 1, 2026
Illumination's Minions franchise continues with a new adventure that pits the lovable yellow chaos agents against... monsters, apparently. Details are thin, but the Minions franchise has earned over $4.6 billion globally, so you can bet this will be a massive family draw at the summer box office.
Release date: July 1, 2026
PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie — August 14, 2026
The PAW Patrol pups go prehistoric in their latest big-screen adventure. The first two PAW Patrol movies proved there's a massive appetite for these characters on the big screen, especially with the preschool crowd and their patient parents.
Release date: August 14, 2026
2027 and Beyond
Frozen III — November 24, 2027
The Frozen franchise is the biggest in Disney Animation history. The first two films earned a combined $2.8 billion at the box office, and the "Let It Go" era defined an entire generation of kids. Frozen III brings back Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven for another adventure. Details are under wraps, but Disney is clearly treating this as one of their biggest releases of 2027.
Release date: November 24, 2027
Shrek 5 — TBD 2027
Shrek is back. DreamWorks is bringing the big green ogre out of retirement with the original voice cast — Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz — all confirmed to return. After a 14-year hiatus since Shrek Forever After, the franchise is ready for a new generation. Eddie Murphy has also been vocal about a standalone Donkey movie.
Expected: 2027
SpongeBob Movie — TBD 2027
Paramount and Nickelodeon have another SpongeBob SquarePants theatrical movie in development. The franchise remains one of the most recognizable in animation, and each movie release is a significant event for the brand.
